Support Vibrant Cultures - Healthy Communities

Burnet Institute

Enriching people’s lives by creating a healthier future in many of the world’s poor and marginalised communities underpins the very essence of the Burnet Institute’s work.

The Burnet Institute, based in Melbourne, is unique in its approach of combining traditional medical research with on-the-ground community public health programs.

Having forged an international reputation for its focus on infectious diseases of global significance such as The ‘Big Three’: HIV, TB and malaria, the Burnet Institute also supports public health programs, especially in maternal and children’s health, in more than 15 countries across Asia, the Pacific and Africa.

Our partnership with AWME 2009 is a natural fit.

AWME 2009 showcases world music from many of the countries where the Burnet Institute works, celebrating the diversity of music and culture; at the same time highlighting many of the health challenges that impact indigenous Australians and developing world communities.

AWME 2009 is supporting and encouraging cultural diversity through artistic performance, and at the same time supporting Burnet’s medical research and public health programs that will make a difference to so many communities around the world.
